Once upon a time, there was a palace in the back yard of the farmer's house.
In that palace there was an election, for who would be king. The candidates were: a republican onion, and a democratic potato. They started the debate.
"My opponent," said the Potato. "makes you cry. Do you really want him to be your president?"
Then the onion got up and said, "This potato is a very nice vegetable, or fruit, or whatever he is. But he will not be a fit president, because he will start to sprout with grief."
The Potato said, "Yes, but remember, you taste awful."
"Yes, but potatos can be lumpy."
The debate ended. The candidates went to bed. The onion had a horrible dream, that he was being chopped up and made into a stew. In the background somebody was making a Christmas Card. When he woke up he screamed.
They both did their speeches, and the Onion mentioned a bomb.
Then Mrs. Regina Rutabaga popped up and said the Onion wasn't being nice, and there was a very frightened student in the vegetable city school. A few minutes later a girl popped out of the blue. She said that the onion looked delicious. She picked him up, and to make a long story short, the next day they were having onion soup for dinner.
And so the vegetables were ruled by the Elected Potato.
